Study Aquaculture

The opportunities for studies in aquaculture at the University of Guelph include courses and projects in several BSc, MSc, and PhD programs. Most aquaculture related courses and projects are in the departments of Animal Biosciences and Integrative Biology. In addition, many other departments and colleges at UoG focus on aquaculture, such as the School of Environmental Sciences, Ontario Veterinary College and School of Engineering. Many topics include fish nutrition, physiology, breeding and genetics, health, waste management, and environmental impacts.

Animal Biosciences

The Animal Biosciences Department focuses on four fields of study that include:

  • Animal Breeding and Genetics (quantitative or molecular)
  • Animal Nutrition (monogastric or ruminant)
  • Animal Physiology (environmental and reproductive)
  • Animal Behaviour and Welfare

Specific aquaculture courses include:

  • Aquaculture Advanced Issues (ANSC 3050)
  • Nutrition of Fish and Crustacea (ANSC 3170)

Integrative Biology

The Integrative Biology Department focuses on five fields of study that include:

  • Biodiversity
  • Ecology
  • Marine and Freshwater Biology
  • Wildlife Biology and Conservation
  • Zoology
