ONTARIO AQUACULTURE CONFERENCE

The Ontario Aquaculture Association (OAA) hosts a conference in Orillia, ON every Spring. Farmers, researchers and others from the industry give talks on the latest news and developments in Ontario aquaculture. The last conference was in March 2023 and the next conference will be March 19-20 2024. For more information and registration, visit OAA.

ONTARIO FISH FARM TOUR

The OAA along with several First Nations and government groups hosts a tour of several net-pen farms and land-based hatcheries around Manitoulin Island, ON every Summer. The tour educates those who have never been on a fish farm before or want to know more. Last tour was in June 2022 and next tour may be in 2024 (date TBD). For more information, visit the OAA.

GETTING STARTING IN AQUACULTURE WORKSHOP

The provincial government (OMAFRA) and the University of Guelph hosts a one-day workshop at the Ontario Aquaculture Research Centre (Alma) every Summer. It is an introduction to farming principles, economics and regulations required to start your own aquaculture and aquaponics business. Last workshop was in August 2023 and next it may be in Summer 2024. For more information, visit the UoG Alliance, OARC or Ontario.

AQUACULTURE CANADA CONFERENCE & TRADESHOW

The Aquaculture Association of Canada (AAC) hosts a conference every Summer. In May 2023, the conference was in Victoria, BC. In 2024, the conference will be in Charlottetown, PEI (June 16-19). For more information and registration details, visit AAC.

ONTARIO INDUSTRY, R&D AND SUSTAINABILITY WORKSHOPS

The federal government (DFO), OAA, Waubetek and University of Guelph host one or two workshops every year in different locations in Ontario. The last Aquaculture R&D and Commercialization workshop was held in Orillia in Febuary 2022. Two workshops on Sustainable Freshwater Aquaculture were held in Little Current and Guelph in November 2023. For more information, visit OAA or contact Dr. Neil Rooney.
